 A westward migration by the Scotch-Irish in the late 17th century saw  the names change to those of Germanic origins. Names such as  Deininger, Risser, Brandt, Wolfersberger, and Gingrich became popular in  the area. The contributions of these people to the area include the bank  barn, limestone farmhouses, and the Lutheran and Reformed churches  that survive today. When John Campbell founded it, Campbelltown was  part of Derry Township in Lancaster County. In 1768 the inhabitants  petitioned the courts to split their township. They cited the lengthy  boundaries of Derry and the consequent inconveniences for its  inhabitants. The resulting Londonderry Township was established as part of Lancaster County,
